METALSMITH & JEWELER
Taking influence from native New England plants and animals, my work is both representational and abstracted imagery with cloisonné enamel set into various vessels and containers. I'm encapsulated by nature's hidden metaphors, and aim to create work that can hold these symbolic meanings. I see these vessels as a “paperless journal.” They’re explorations of my journaling practice translated into image and object. Enamel allows me to design imagery built layer by layer in glass, allowing me to be painterly in a highly delicate material. Fabrication remains a core balance to the work- it houses the “writing” and metaphorical imagery. It's a keepsake. A place to house emotion, intent, and object.
I primarily use sheet metal to fabricate the body of these vessels, drafting patterns from a flat plane and then using techniques such as forming and carving to create depth and volume. These fabricated elements are made specifically to house my cloisonné enamels– a colorful illustration of glass and metal.
